The Diary of Anne Frank
By Frances Goodrich and Albert Hacket
Directed by Chris Rozanski
Directors Note.
As part of our Rep festival week hosted by The Birmingham Theatre School, we are pleased to announce that the moving Story of The Diary of Ann Frank will form the centre piece of our week’s performances.
Anne’s story is a fragment of what has come to be known as the holocaust. The Nazis took the lives of almost six million normal human beings… because they were Jews; because they were the children of their parents; because evil men triumphed over sanity and civilised human feelings, The Horror of what happened in Germany between 1933 and 1945, the torment and suffering by so many individuals, is a story not about anti Semitism but of racism. Nor is it only about the past, or even Europe; it is about now and the many other areas of the world where racism follows its twisted logic towards a final solution. This is what Anne’s story does, gives an everlasting name to what happened in Europe earlier this century and ensures that we resist being cut off from the horrors of racism wherever it occurs.
We look forward to welcoming you to this moving production and hope you can attend our workshop day which will provide an invaluable insight into the staging of this production. Ideal material for those who might have an interest in the subject or simply studying it at GSCE or A’ level.
