BTEC LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN PERFORMING ARTS (Acting):
This two year programme (delivered by The Birmingham Theatre School in association with Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College, Birmingham) represents a partnership between a college of further education and a national drama school. The course is a natural academic progression after completing GCSEs and introduces students to practical technique classes and performance-based training within a drama school environment.
The course consists of eighteen units across a wide spectrum of the creative and performing arts. Students are expected to study both core and optional units as part of their two year programme. Units will include workshops in:
Working with text
Movement & Physical Theatre
Musical Theatre performance
Acting To Camera Techniques
Classical & Contemporary Theatre.
Performance and production
In addition, core units are studied as part of the fundamental academic structure of this course. These will include historical studies, business & management and performing to an audience. Students are expected to maintain a level of academic rigor equal to 3 A Level subjects,. The New Musical Theatre Pathway offers students the choice to specialise in a chosen discipline. This exiting new option will commence in September 2017 and enable candidates to explore a wider choice especially in their 2nd year of study
A personal tutor will be appointed to support all work undertaken. Through one-to-one sessions, group tutorials and personal review plans, students take an active role in the decision making process and develop their ability for independent learning.
At the heart of the school’s philosophy is the performance experience, students will perform in a number of major performance projects including the promenade and graduation shows. Upon completion, students regularly gain entry into a University or Drama School.
